Efficio Radio Network Guest BloggerEver heard the expression, “time is money”? This is absolutely true in media. Every broadcast or printed article is coupled with advertisements and every story that is pitched and placed is selected after careful consideration.Advertisers pay by CPM, a unit of measurement that equals a thousand pairs of eyeballs. Ensure that your story is newsworthy.

Newsworthy is an adjective defined as “interesting enough to the general public to warrant reporting.” A publicist must first understand that a media professional’s goal is to target audiences for high ratings, which in turn helps to sell ads. There are many things that you can do to pitch a newsworthy story such as:

1.    Confirming the timeliness of the story to coincide with what is happening in society
2.    Making the story astonishing and depart from the norm
3.    Presenting news and information that is useful to the audience
4.    Mentioning a celebrity’s direct involvement
5.    Ensuring the media outlet’s audience is a match for your story

Remember “Time is Money.” The media is always mindful of their time spent targeting advertisers, so don’t waste your time with ineffective media pitches.
